My Life with Watson: A tour of my time working on cognitive computing solutions
Presentation Abstract
A tour of experiences, lessons learned, and best practices from a leader of technical content design, development, and delivery for IBM Watson and Watson Health offerings/solutions. This presentation covers some of the challenges in defining and implementing a content strategy across a team, a business unit, or an entire organization, and includes experiences and lessons learned about team work and collaboration, and the benefits of supporting cross-functional roles and dotted line relationships, and how to instill more engagement in team members.

Meet the Presenter
Rob has been with IBM since 2003, and is currently leading content development for Life Sciences solutions in Watson Health. Prior to this assignment, from 2012 to 2016, Rob was working on Watson as part of the Watson core technology team. and built and led a team of content developers, and then also managed a distributed team of user interface developers. He led a project that built a Watson sample application that answered questions about Watson itself, called Watson on Watson, and has worked with design and development teams on Watson solutions for entity relationship discovery, drug discovery, oncology clinical trial matching, real world evidence, and drug and patient safety. Earlier in his career, he was part of Rational software and has led teams working on documentation for software developers. Rob studied Computer Science at Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana and used to be one of Seattle’s top distance runners (1988-90) and loves that great city. He was also a board member of ACM SIGDOC from 2000-2012.
